It’s hot and muggy in D.C. now, and all I want is ice cream. It’s a huge part of our culture here – on average, Americans eat about 40 pints of it a year! And we even have a day devoted to ice cream, National Ice Cream Day. It’s today, so there’s your excuse to go get some.
So far this summer I’ve enjoyed Thomas Sweet by the Georgetown waterfront and Ice Cream Jubilee after dinner on U Street. But I tried the most unique ice cream at Blue Duck Tavern a few weeks ago when I previewed their July menu. Pastry Chef Erin Reed grew up in Central Pennsylvania, and was inspired by her childhood memories for this year’s ice cream choices. Think funnel cakes from the carnival, floats, and what she’d order from the ice cream man.
