Earlier this week, I drove to Dulles Airport and arrived pretty early. I checked in and got a special passport right away. We were headed somewhere special.
Since there was about an hour before takeoff, I decided to grab some food in the terminal. I ran into some friends there, like Aparna from The Hungry Travelist, Ashlee from Will Drink for Travel, Ashlee from Cobalt Chronicles, and Valerie from The Road Lots Traveled.
My favorite bites were the pretzels with spicy white cheese from Bracket Room, and the meatballs from Cafe Americana.
I love how Dulles makes sure to include D.C. cuisine for international passengers to travel locally through food in-between, before and after flights.
We went through security together, and then onto one of Dulles’ brand new mobile lounges for a tour of the airfield.
I’ve never been able to see the floor on one of these since it’s usually jam-packed. It was really nice compared to what I’m used to!
We got off at a new terminal and were escorted to the United First Class Lounge, where we toasted with champagne!
We also tried some of the lounge food offerings and learned from the United First Class team.
Finally, it was time to board.
We walked onto the new United Boeing 747 aircraft. The pilot even let us take a look at the cockpit.
I also learned that some airplanes have spots for the crew and pilots to sleep. I never knew that!
As you can probably tell by now, we weren’t really going anywhere. Dulles Airport and United invited me and other D.C. media to tour their new food offerings, the mobile lounge, the First Class Lounge, and the new Boeing 747.
The Dulles metro stop is scheduled to open in 2020, which will be amazing. I know many of you find those deals at Dulles but don’t take them since it’s a bit too far without a car. Now, there’s something to look forward to!
Have you been to Dulles lately? What are you looking forward to on your next visit?
