My New Years resolutions didn’t happen in January. I crafted them while in Oaxaca, Mexico in November, and created a plan to make them happen. I knew what I wanted to do, steps I needed to take to get there, and a timeline for doing it all.
What I didn’t anticipate were some major life changes and opportunities. New travel destinations, DC events, finding a new apartment, navigating my 9-5, dealing with the end of a relationship, and jumping on new business opportunities all seemed to happen at once. Isn’t life funny that way? But somehow, I’m still invigorated and excited for what’s to come.
My circle of friends and family makes this possible.
I celebrated my 27th birthday this week. We kicked it off with a flamingo-themed party in my apartment, something I’ve always wanted to do (if you didn’t know already, flamingos are my favorite animals!). It was so much fun; I have the best friends, who truly love to see me happy, and join me in silly demands like wearing pink or getting excited by a piñata.
We continued the party at Heist DC, a lounge in DuPont Circle. With being treated like royalty at a table all to ourselves, a crowd of young professionals around our age, and our favorite songs mixed by the DJ, it was the perfect place to dance and flamingle.
The hostess, Maggie, was incredibly attentive. At one point, a couple of guys tried to sit in our table, and Heist DC’s management swiftly escorted them out. They even gave us more drinks to compensate for it. They truly went above and beyond to make it a comfortable, crazy fun birthday celebration. Here’s a snap from my SnapChat:
On Sunday we had gigantic omelets and fries at one of my favorites, Bistrot Du Coin. And on Tuesday my family and I celebrated with dinner at Lupo Verde – which was authentic Italian that I can’t wait to go back and try more of.
I’m so full of love, food and gratitude.
The start to my year was tough, both personally and professionally. This week re-sparked my energy to continue pushing forward with Travelaine, my new Meetup group, my 9-5, and my overall well-being.
A birthday trip to New York City kicked-off my travels and business in 2016. This year, my birthday celebrations here at home started a new year of amazing opportunities. Even if I don’t plan it, my New Years seem to always start in March.
